Many, many thanks for the great response in our search for land on which to build self-catering cottages for Christian retreats! The farms were beautiful and the Christians we met were lovely people... you all know who you are!
At the end of the day we opted for our own properties alongside the Diep River and in close walking distance to the village of Malmesbury and the nature reserve.
Among other things our new "Riverbank" development will comprise 16 apartments and 10 cottages. All the accommodation will befurnished and fully equipped for self catering. The units will also be serviced daily by Christian staff.
Riverbank will be ideal for cosy getaways for Christian individuals or families but will also be available en bloc for church conferences and retreats - still our core business.
To this end we are almost finished building an additional 200 seater hall on the site (see photo below) and thereafter a communal self-catering kitchen and dining room.
The new Riverbank development will compliment our existing 25 bedroom and conference facility at Almond Bridge. Almond Bridge offers low cost catering and is used for church conferences most weekends of the year.
Some churches would like to save costs and do their own cooking - hence the self catering Riverbank development.
Both Riverbank and Almond Bridge form part of Berachah Retreat and Conference Centre.

The entire Berachah Retreat and Conference Centre encompasses several buildings including a church… but the central building is an attractive 3 star rated guest house called Almond Bridge. It is set in a peaceful garden setting overlooking a river. It boasts 25 en suite double and triple en suite (mostly showers) guest rooms all equipped with TV. Tea and coffee stations on all floors. Capacity - fifty persons in comfort (two per room); sixty persons (three in some rooms).
Packages available at Berachah Retreat:
1. General Conference Packages
Ideal conference venue - cosy but professional. A time to get away to neutral ground, renew friendships, review the year behind and chart a course for the challenges ahead. Fellowship (and prayer) are the solutions to church politics!
R240 per person per night sharing. Price includes accommodation as well as three meals per day from Menu 1. (Min 25 persons for 2 nights. If less than 25 people arrive or if it is only one night, this rate increases to R260 ppp night/day)
R320 per person per night sharing. Price includes accommodation plus three meals per day from Menu 2. (Min 25 persons for min of two nights. If less than 25 people arrive or if it is only one night, this rate increases to R340 ppp night/day)
R395 per person per night sharing. Price includes accommodation plus three meals per day from Menu 3. (Min 25 persons for min of two nights. If less than 25 people arrive or if it is only one night, this rate increases to R415 ppp day)
Note that if less than 8 people book, none of the above conference rates above apply and you will be charged at the non-conference rates below Also note that none of the above packages confer exclusive use of the guest house accommodation even if there are 30 or 40 people. The only way to ensure exclusive use of the guest house, regardless of the size of your group, is to take the "Whole Guesthouse Package" below. We heartily recommend such package.

2. Exclusive Use - Whole Guesthouse Package...
If your church wants exclusive use of the entire guest house, conference centre and grounds from Friday 2pm to Monday 10am ...we can oblige. We will close off the guest house to everyone except your congregation for the weekend. The cost will be R24,000 which includes accommodation and all meals (Menu 1) for 50 people. (Two persons per en-suite room.) An additional 20 persons may be sqeezed in by having three per room and using our attic. In such case there is no extra charge for the beds but there is an extra charge of R35 per person per meal for the persons between 50 and 70 in number. This extra charge is for meals from Menu 1.
Please note that on the "Whole Guesthouse Package", whether you bring 10, 20 or 50 people or stay one, two or three nights, the cost remains R24,000. You are ensuring exclusive use of the guesthouse, grounds, both conference rooms and all equipment from Friday 2pm to Monday 10am
3. Non-conference rates - less than 8 persons
R290 per night single or R165 pp sharing accommodation only
Meals in our period dining cottage. Basic menu but a great cook!
Or eat out in Malmesbury which is walking distance across the river.

Prices above do not include coffees / biscuits after meals or during conferences. Groups are encouraged to bring their own coffee / tea / biscuits which can be served in the conference lounge after every meal and during conferences. We supply water urns and wash up after you. Alternatively make arrangements with Lyn to have coffee provided after meals by the guesthouse for a small extra charge.
On the Menu 1 R240 package, no towels or soap are provided in above prices. Guests encouraged to bring their own or make prior arrangements with management if you require these for a nominal extra charge. Menu 2 (R320) and Menu 3 (R395) packages include soap and towels.
Sometimes two groups will share the guest house which then has a total sleeping capacity limited to 50 persons. Note that we have three different conference rooms in the venue, a small one and two large rooms. Ensure in advance you know which conference room your group has been allocated and what equipment you will require. See "Conference" tab for equipment available.
If you take the "Whole Conference Package" you automatically have use of the small conference room and your choice of either the medium or large conference rooms.
The small conference room has an effective seated capacity of 20 persons, the medium conference venue has an effective seated capacity of 70 persons while the large conference venue has a capacity of 200 persons.
Note that the large conference venue is about 250 meters away from the main building.
The conference facilities and equipment are free for conferences who are sleeping overnight following the conference. Day conferences not sleeping overnight will pay R600 for use of the small conference room R2000 for use of the medium conference room and R3000 for use of the large conference room.
"No-shows" on the day as well as cancellations less than two weeks before arrival will be charged at R100 per person per night.
To "hold" your conference booking, 20% NON REFUNDABLE deposit must be paid within 10 days of your making the booking. Failure to pay this deposit will almost certainly result in our booking the accommodation out to someone else. The balance of 80% is payable on or before arrival.
